Exfoliating your skin with AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids) can help your skin stay smooth, bright, clean, and soft. It can help shrink pores and even reduce the visibility of wrinkles. However, if you have sensitive skin AHAs can sometimes be a bit harsh and irritating. It is a little known fact that scrubs that include ingredients like walnut or apricot particles can cause microscopic cuts on your skin, which can possibly lead to infection and inhibit skin regrowth. Glycolic peels will leave you feeling great but might cause damage in the long run, and any sort of AHA scrub can leave you with lingering redness and irritation. A great solution for people like me who want a gentler exfoliate is Amore Pacific’s Treatment Enzyme Peel, which is gentle enough to even use in sensitive areas, like under your eyes!
What’s In It?
Many of the ingredients are colorants and preservatives, but the other ingredients are all geared for optimal skin health. The exfoliates are Papain and Betain, which come from papayas and sugar beets respectively. Sodium Lauroyl Glutamate and Sodium Cocoyl Glycinate Dextrin (try saying those two names three times fast!) are both cleansers meant to eradicate grease and dirt. Zeolite takes the cleansing properties to another level; this clay will absorb any additional oil lingering on your skin. Silica exfoliates without leaving behind those invisible cuts that damage your skin, while Allantoin soothes the skin. You might be a bit taken aback by the fact that the product only has two active exfoliators, as was I at first, but as you can see from Amazon reviews the product has a very good reputation. The most surprising thing about the product is that it’s not a cream but a powder that you mix with water to create a silky, soft foam.
Where Do I Get It?
I bought my Amore Pacific’s Treatment Enzyme Peel at the Amore Pacific store in New York, but you can also find it on Amazon, Amore Pacific’s website, and at Sephora. You might also be able to find it at a local beauty store. I like to think of it as a trip to the day spa that I can indulge in every day in my own home!
What Does It Do?
According to Amore Pacific’s website, the Treatment Enzyme Peel is “a water-activated exfoliator to dissolve dead surface skin cells without harsh abrasiveness for instantly brighter skin. It eliminates dry, dull surface cells and toxins, helps brighten and even skin tone while providing a soft and smooth complexion, and improves the penetration of other treatment products.” After trying other Amore Pacific products with only so-so results, I was skeptical about these claims. However, the ingredients list the active enzymes in the first few ingredients, meaning that there are not a whole lot of useless filler chemicals.
What to Expect?
At the store, when the salesgirl tested the product on one of my hands, I was immediately impressed by the way it worked. My treated hand felt significantly better than my untreated hand and I was excited to go home and try it out on my face! Always start with a clean, fresh face when using this product. The product is extremely user friendly and comes in a bottle that automatically dispenses the correct amount of powder. I love that feature! When you begin to rub the powder onto your face, it will immediately begin to froth up and release a light fragrance. The scent is a mild herbal scent that is very appealing, and while anyone who is particularly sensitive to perfumes might find it irritating, I really enjoy the fragrance. You should gently massage your skin for about half a minute for the product to do its work; after rinsing, you’ll be surprised to find yourself with the softest, cleanest, smoothest skin you’ve ever had! It’s strong but gentle and will exfoliate every inch of your face, including around your lips and under your eyes. It doesn’t leave your skin red and puffy like other exfoliates, which is a great thing if you’re in a rush before going out but want to sneak in an extra treatment!
A bottle should last you around three months if you use it daily, which I do. However, you can make it last a lot longer if you only use it a few times per week. Over time the product has yet to let me down and every day my skin looks fabulous, glowing and smooth. I’ve even used it when I’ve had a sunburn or on overly chapped skin from winter weather. You might still want to indulge in other facial treatments like glycolic peels from time to time, but in all honesty the Amore Pacific’s Treatment Enzyme Peel is more than sufficient for a low-maintenance but awesome skin care routine.
The product looks good, feels good, and works spectacular. I’d recommend it for anyone with sensitive skin looking for a peel that won’t leave you red and irritated, or for anyone who wants a light, effective method for clearing out pores and keeping skin healthy and radiant. Anyone with allergies should pay attention to the ingredient list, as it does contain some artificial colors and perfumes. This product might not be ideal for people with major skin issues, but it works perfectly for me and my needs and I urge you to go out and try it for yourself!
